On behalf of the Bennettsville-Cheraw Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, I welcome you to our website! Thank you for taking the time out to explore and learn more about our beloved organization and chapter, which strive to uphold the founding principles of Sisterhood, Scholarship and Service.
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated is an organization of college educated women committed to constructive development of its members and to public service with a primary focus on the Black community. Founded on the campus of Howard University on January 13, 1913 by 22 dynamic and trailblazing young women, Delta redefined what it meant to be a part of a sorority, and promoted academic excellence and provided assistance to those in need. Delta Sigma Theta’s distinct legacy and commitment to public service and social activism is carried on by over 200,000 active members in 1,000 collegiate and alumnae chapters in the United States and many countries internationally.
The Bennettsville-Cheraw Alumnae Chapter is committed to serious endeavors in community service and adopting the initiatives of the sorority through the Five-Point Programmatic Thrust which include:
*Economic Development
* Educational Development
*International Awareness
*Physical and Mental Health
*Political Awareness and Involvement
The national initiative is to have “joy in our sisterhood… power in our voice… service in our heart.”. A few of our most notable projects are: Mentoring youth; distributing scholarships, donating money/collection of supplies for surrounding areas and international resources, promoting voter awareness; distributing physical and mental health information and promoting voter awareness and registering voters.
Because of our endeavors, the Bennettsville-Cheraw Alumnae Chapter has been recognized for the following: State-SC Delta Day at the State Capital Spotlight Chapter to Watch; Regional-South Carolina State Chapter of the Quarter for Arts and Letters; Nationally- Project 13 (American Heart Go Red Day, and March of D.I.M.E.S.) and Heritage and Archives.
Today, The Bennettsville-Cheraw Alumnae Chapter proudly carries on the Torch of Wisdom as we uplift an embark on our national mantra-“joy in our sisterhood… power in our voice… service in our heart.” Thank you once again for taking the time to visit our website.
