May Week is a national program of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. that was created at Del-ta’s second National Convention in 1920 at Wilberforce University.
To highlight our program: Delta Academy, Delta GEMS, EMBODI, Delta Doll Pageant, Senior Citizens, Physical & Mental Health, Social Action, Jabberwock/Scholarships.
Our theme for our May Week Celebration is “ Making An Impact in the Community Building Relationships"
Soror Andrea McLeod, Program Chair for this May Week Celebration. It has been her task to work closely with "All" programs throughout the year as they meet monthly.
Dr. Kandace Bethea, a native of Marion who resides in Bennettsville, SC. She has dedicated 27 years as a public school educator in South Carolina and is presently the Superintendent of Marion School District. Dr. Bethea is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She spoke on the topic " Embracing A Spirit of Service."
The Bennettsville-Cheraw Alumnae Chapter work diligently with our youths, parents, mentors, and communities to give support where it is needed. We work tirelessly to make every year a reality.

Delta of the Year 2023
Bennettsville Cheraw Alumnae recognizes those in the community working everyday to support those who are unable to help themselves. Rev. Jeremy Bethea is our recipient. Congratulations Rev. Bethea!
James Edward Clemmons, Jr. Community Service Award is in honor of the late Sheriff James Edward Clemmons, Jr. Sherriff Clemmons served as a mentor for the Bennettsville -Cheraw Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Embodi program for over fifteen years. Embodi stands for Empowering Males to Build Opportunities for Developing Independence. As a mentor, he served in several capacities with these young men.
They are as follows:
1. He helped the young men to make healthy life style choices.
2. He provided numerous workshops on cultural, educational and social expectations.
3. He shared his expertise on avoiding and navigating the criminal justice system.
4. He served as a chaperone and cook on male bonding trips.
5. He served as a chaperone on cultural field trips.
6. He assisted the young men with the Community Service Project of Adopt a Highway.
7. He modeled the characteristics of being a leader, team player, gentleman, and provider.
In addition to his service to these young men, he served other organizations in the community which helped all people. Not only was he a leader in the community, the governor of NC and President Biden appointed him to serve on several Criminal Justice Commissions
He was active in his church.

Delta Academy/Delta GEMS, a mentoring program that serves girls ages 11-18, provides tools that enables girls to sharpen and enhance their skills to achieve high levels of academic success.

Each of the young ladies received a certificate for their participation in this year monthly meetings. We're making a difference one youth at at time. Worskshops are held each month on topics such as: Career Development, Healthy Eating, Self-Esteem, Nutrition and Fitness, Community Service and an Educational Field Trip.

The Entrepreneur Competiton allows the youth to present their project/business he has come up with and how successful is their project. The guys have to meet with the men who are our collaborative partners . The winners for this year are:
Bennettsville Cheraw Alumnae recognizes Mrs. Hattie Burns for her community service work with the Cheraw area. We appreciate you, Mrs. Burns.
These men come to every meeting and give guidance, assist the committee with fishing trips, bowling, football/basketball games, and much more. We appreciate them so much!
